2 x 6, 20 common nail

This fence was built in 1983, so today Grandpa, Grandma, Mary, and I had some “stitch in time” work to do before weaning.

Hard, laborus work usually leads me to deeper thinking and a true appreciation of technology and advancements.
“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.” ―Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Setting a post.
“Diversification is a protection against ignorance. It makes very little sense for those who know what they’re doing.” – Warren Buffett
Trying not to make hammer tracks, I can see why carpenters have nail guns…uffda!
One of my favorite ladies to dwell on:
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” -Mother Teresa
Thank goodness he’s patient enough to teach me. His arm is starting to give out on him…so I guess that makes me his right arm helper.🔨
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”-Proverb
With below freezing temperatures, we went around and turned off all of the hydrants we don’t use in the winter so they could back drain and not freeze and break.
Watching us work from a warm pick up. It was a sleety, windy, and blustery afternoon.
A warm, cozy house, and a tasty meal, felt really good this evening.
“A baby is God’s opinion that the world should go on.”
Carl Sandburg
My phone says this picture was taken on this day last year, amazing what moisture does for corn and pumpkins!

Cleaning Corrals

Grandpa’s been cleaning our weaning corrals.  Uncle Peter came over with his skidsteer today to do the “fine-tuning” work.

Peter cleaned out the barn entirely of the manure that Grandpa couldn’t reach with the bigger loader tractor. Here he’s cleaning the bottom of the board fence which will make it much easier for us to do repairs.

Windy Pheasant Hunting, Weaning Preparation & Harvest Celebration

Remember the “Where’s Waldo?” Books, find the pheasant hunters.😉
Bentley & Ginger ready to help us set up panels.
Resting after setting up panels in the wind.
My pumpkin bars were a hit, thanks for the pan Anna! I love how Gabe cut big bars for the big people.😁
He makes excellent popcorn in his cute machine! Thanks for bringing and sharing!
This Grandma must have done something right, she has quite the bouquet of Grandchildren 💛💙♥️
Thanks for all of your help, this lady washes the bedding and makes the bed before she goes! Does most of the dishes, brings a ton of food, and helps in meal preparation. Overachiever!!! But much appreciated 💕.
I wondered if little girl would get any attention growing up in God’s country where there’s more cattle than people, appears she’s being doted upon a little bit.💖

Tomatoes 🍅

Today, we sauced the tomatoes.  I’ll be honest, the garden does not make us money, and the amount of time and work that’s put into preparing, planting, weeding, harvesting, sorting, just adds to the work load. But, the food it produces is so delicious!

Midway through canning it was lunch time, I grabbed a bowl full of sauced tomatoes and made some of the most savory and delicious tomato soup I have eaten!
Sanitizing the jars.
The tomatoes.
Washing the tomatoes.

Godmothers

These two lucky little ones were able to see their Godmothers today.

Uncle Hilary flew in to GU this morning with Anna.
We had some lovely, unexpected guests today…so happy that they were able to swing in for a short visit.
“Sometimes it’s those little unexpected things in life that can make a big difference to us. Embrace and welcome the unexpected.”-Nishan Panwar

Rosie

Andrew worked on his horse training skills this afternoon despite the strong wind!

Teaching Grandpa’s filly, Rosie, to accept the halter.
Rosie’s dam is a registered Quarter Horse and her sire is a registered Suffolk, so she is part workhorse.
Had some Sunday visitors.

Networking

I think the neatest part about this ranching way of life, besides it involving the whole family, is meeting new people almost every job.

Met 6 new people.

2nd cattle drive before noon.

Andrew took this one💕
Our Little Pumpkins 💖🧡💛💙
Andrew was happy to wrap up some yard work. He finished after dark.

Marsh Hay

The marsh gave us more bales than we had expected!  With the dry weather we have been having, Grandpa was able to harvest further into the marsh.

Hauling bales double time to get them out of the marsh in case it rains.
Grandpa’s 81 year old cousin improved the stockdam at the home place… when he retires he’ll be missed.
