Instead of checking a fence line we decided to carve Jack o’ lanterns…the dark came earlier than we expected, with the cloudiness and wind, we put it off for tomorrow.

I remember milking the milk cow when I was 8 years old. Sometimes, history does repeat itself.

Milk, it does the body good! 🥛

One of Mom’s nurses heard I made chokecherry syrup, so I was in the kitchen today canning some syrup from the chokecherries she gave me.

She thought she would help me load the dishwasher to sanitize the canning jars. We had to go over the instructions of removing the lids and rings, I gave her some slack however, since she’s 22 months old.

While the other two napped, she brought some friends to help me make monster cookies for after school snack.

In the background, if you notice a crock, Andrew used the cabbages I grew and made some sauerkraut last night.

Off the Beaten Path

It is so nice to see new areas of the world! We were able to take a vacation due to a school break and were blessed to see friends, family, and such beautiful fall colors!

We got in a stop at the best cake maker in the Midwest and had a nice visit with her and her husband.

We also got to see the uncle whose voice can fill up our little country church.

Grandma Jen got in some snuggle time with Baby Lucy.

Once this is baked, and removed from the shell, I add some butter and brown sugar and it is so tasty! The kids also really enjoy the seeds roasted and salted!

I used the homemade tomato sauce, added sliced cabbage, carrots, and beets, all from our garden! Then, I added some noodles and beef broth. The flavor was bursting! It tasted so real compared to canned soups.

The ducks and geese were enjoying the yard today.

A beautiful evening for a cattle move.

Time to can some tomatoes.

I think I’ll make a tomato noodle soup 🍲 tomorrow. 😋

The temperature is supposed to drop after today, I’ll probably have to say goodbye to the pretty, eclectic flowers in front of the house… they remind me of Lucy’s birth and Baptism… good memories to have, hold, and keep for eternity💝.

The children grew the white pumpkins, and we believe the light blue one is actually a cross between the buttercup squash and the white pumpkins.

We have the sweetest neighbor lady who invited the children over to pick out a pumpkin last Monday.

Supper: Knoephla soup made from potatoes, onions, and carrots from our garden. Roast beef from our butcher steer. Triple chocolate walnut brownies (from a box😉). I like it when I am able to produce a dish, every meal, from something we’ve raised.
