Working Calves & Excellent Help

This past week I had the honor of getting to know my niece and nephew better as they stayed for a week to learn about Life on the Farm.ย  We also had a most wonderful calf working crew numbering 27!

Heading out to gather the herd!
Andrew snapped this picture when they were rounding up.
Here comes the herd!
An excellent rope horse.
Lunch time!
๐Ÿ’–
Such an amazing helper!
He helped me rototiller the pumpkins, squash and zucchini.
He got to harrow a little.
Hoeing potatoes.
Moved heifers to a summer pasture.

Twinkle โœจ

The boys decided on the name Twinkle for the new filly.ย  Her dame is Star.ย  So I thought that was fitting ๐Ÿ™‚

Leading Jet, Twinkle, and Star to their picket lines.
Memorial Day is Monday. We went to St. Clement’s cemetery to locate the deceased Veterans. Forever grateful for being born and raised and continuing to reside in the Beautiful U.S.A! God Bless America & Happy Memorial Day!

Potatoes and Ponies

A couple of potatoes popped up.

Potato.
It’s so neat to glance out and see him jumping off and on his pony. She’s getting used to him and he’s always very good about asking me if he can work with his pony so that I am able to keep an eye on him.
More tulips opened. It doesn’t appear as if any daffodils are coming!?! Hmmm.

Flowers!

โ€œFlowersโ€ฆ are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty out values all the utilities in the world.โ€ โ€“ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our Little Flower!
Ever since we had that streak of tough luck, I appreciate every healthy calf we get!
He has really enjoyed watching the ๐ŸŒท grow and now bloom!
It is fun watching Andrew work the field while I do dishes! I didn’t have to go very far to bring him lunch!
Gifted this beautiful pot! ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’

Rain & Rough Day

It’s raining today. That’s good. We had a rough day with the cow herd.ย  After a wonderful streak of tagging 6 to 9 healthy calves every day since April 24th, we had the misfortune of losing 3 calves in the last couple days.ย  Two were unexplained deaths and one was deformed.ย  We were having such a fantastic run with the majority of our herd calving in 18 days.ย  We have approximately 30 head to calve out still and the calving is starting to slow, tagged just one calf yesterday.ย  Hoping we can wrap up the calving season without anymore losses.ย  The cloudy, gloomy weather just adds to the sad losses found today.ย  The rain is much needed though.

This poor momma cow is searching for her deceased calf. Death can be so sad.

Grandma Mary is 95!

We aren’t able to throw Grandma a big party today, I’m so happy there was a big party for her 90th birthday.ย  Happy 95th birthday, Grandma!ย  I always thought 100 was a nice round number; good goal to aim for ๐Ÿ˜‰

A picture of Grandma as I remember her in her farmhouse. Looking forward to celebrating with her once we’re able to enter the nursing home.

Happy Mother’s Day!๐ŸŒบ

The Most Important Person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedralโ€”a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body…The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation… What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother? โ€”Venerable Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

Happy Mother’s Day All Mothers!
Off to public Mass!
So good to have some “normal” & if we catch anything may God help us survive it, be made stronger and carry on.
We had tough weather yesterday so the boys enjoyed sculpting and playing games with gifts from the Jacobson uncles ๐Ÿ’™
A bit of a mini blizzard.
Taylor Nursery is an addictive place…I probably shouldn’t go there again, unless I win the lottery. So many pretty trees and plants!๐ŸŒณ
Lucky me gets a tree! Such a wonderful Mother’s Day!๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ’
