Off the Beaten Path

It is so nice to see new areas of the world! We were able to take a vacation due to a school break and were blessed to see friends, family, and such beautiful fall colors!

We got in a stop at the best cake maker in the Midwest and had a nice visit with her and her husband.
We also got to see the uncle whose voice can fill up our little country church.
Grandma Jen got in some snuggle time with Baby Lucy.
A brief stop at Sauk Rapids.

Buttercup Squash 😋

Once this is baked, and removed from the shell, I add some butter and brown sugar and it is so tasty! The kids also really enjoy the seeds roasted and salted!
I used the homemade tomato sauce, added sliced cabbage, carrots, and beets, all from our garden! Then, I added some noodles and beef broth. The flavor was bursting! It tasted so real compared to canned soups.
The ducks and geese were enjoying the yard today.

5th Cattle Drive & Canning Tomatoes 🍅

A beautiful evening for a cattle move.
Time to can some tomatoes.
I think I’ll make a tomato noodle soup 🍲 tomorrow. 😋
The temperature is supposed to drop after today, I’ll probably have to say goodbye to the pretty, eclectic flowers in front of the house… they remind me of Lucy’s birth and Baptism… good memories to have, hold, and keep for eternity💝.

Supper: Knoephla soup made from potatoes, onions, and carrots from our garden. Roast beef from our butcher steer. Triple chocolate walnut brownies (from a box😉). I like it when I am able to produce a dish, every meal, from something we’ve raised.

Soybean straw, potatoes, garden & Rain 🌧️

This past week we finished hauling soybean straw, Grandpa and the Boys picked all the potatoes on Monday, and we harvested the rest of the garden.

Simon sold 10 buttercup squash at $2 each. A garden is a great way to teach the beginning of entrepreneurship.
I can’t help but smile around these cuties!
It rained today! We got 1.82 inches 🌧️… We feel so blessed it came at this time, we won’t have to haul water to our hardest pasture to haul water to. Praise Him!

Buttercup Squash Anyone?

I am pretty proud of this little fellow! Without any prompting from his mother or father he harvested all of the buttercup squash and pumpkins and then donated some of them to the food pantry in Glen Ullin. I think if he continues on this trail, wherever he settles in life, that area will be lucky to have him.
Do not try this at home, be sure to have professional help available.
I asked him what sort of brake system he had available since he wasn’t using shafts, the reply was, well Dad was there. I asked the Dad, what his plan was if the pony started bucking or if the wagon rolled into the pony, his reply is, “well it did happen.” 🤦. We’ve got lots of learning to do in the horse training business. We also need to get a pony cart or wagon or sleigh. Would be a good idea for Grandpa to give us some driving lessons if we’re going to go into the driving business.
