Adventures in Haymarsh

Month: August 2020 (Page 2 of 3)

2nd Grade

This young boy is ready for second grade.  We all joined him for breakfast.  We all reminisced on this past summer. It was a full one.  Life is so precious.  Children grow up too fast.  Tragedies happen, keep the good memories, and one must persevere and carry on.

First day of second grade.
He has a new route and new bus driver this year. The two year old was quite upset that he could not go with Simon. Our preschooler’s first day is tomorrow.
Her sweetness and smiles help keep our spirits up.

Tragedy

We lost Skipper today in an accident.  Poor Simon just sobbed.  My heart just hurts for him…I thought Skipper would be seeing him off to college like my Bonnie sent me off. Andrew, just this morning, told me how he finally felt like he and Skipper were able to communicate well and he was telling me about how Skipper was showing good cow sense during morning chores.  If you have a little room in your prayers please say some prayers for little Simon and our family.  Today we lost our companion, guard, and friend.

Laying Skipper to rest.

Red Gingham Tablecloth

Ever since we moved in, Andrew has wanted a red checkered tablecloth.  I finally found one at a price that I liked.  I really like how it looks, that man has taste!

Cattle Drive and chokecherry syrup

There’s been a lot of  kind-hearted folks over the years who have helped us out trailing our cattle to pastures. It was nice to have an opportunity for the boys and I to help with a trail drive today.

Our household woke up at 4:40 am today in order to be driving out of the yard at 5:15 a.m. The temperature was forecasted to be in the 90s and we wanted to get the trail drive over before the heat hit.
She needed her beauty rest at 9 a.m. this morning.
Simon & Ambrose went over to our chokecherry trees and picked a whole gallon of them. Simon then washed them and Andrew made syrup out of them.
Approximately every four days or so we need to go pick our tasty Jade beans.
I have a couple of quarts frozen already, and we’ve had beans almost every night for supper. Eating is so good in August!
Almost every farm kid I know needs to run across the bales at least once a year.
The boys caught a frog on Monday and were so excited to show me the habitat they made for him… Lucky for me by that afternoon he had jumped out of the barrel!

Sweet corn!

The three boys went and picked and husked 7 cobs for a treat tonight!   So tasty!!!

Prepping the 🌽.
They unanimously agreed that it was worth all of the work!
Sitting so proudly! With those two bottom chompers, she’s sure starting to enjoy food!

Dog days of Summer🌻

I was going through some old photos looking for one for my brother, but I found this one instead.  I hope all of my children develop a close bond with a “Creature of Our God and King” that leads them to happy memories.  I sure have happy memories of my Bonnie.

Bonnie politely shaking my hand as my family headed out to a wedding circa 1991.
Andrew making hay while the sun shines. He’s getting a second cutting of alfalfa down.
On our way to taking Grandpa lunch after feeding Daddy, we saw something in the road. Pretty sure this is a deceased bull snake.
Heading out as Grandpa takes a break.

Peaches & Cherry pie!

We processed 2 boxes of Faye Alberta peaches.

He peeled every single peach! Such a great help!!!
Peaches in syrup, peach jam and peach syrup.
We had a small batch of tart cherries left, so Andrew made a pie…I think you inspired him Chuck!
Working with Twinkle.
Looks like we’ll have some watermelons!
Little pumpkins on the Cinderella pumpkin!
The pumpkin, gourd, squash, and zucchini patch.
Mary’s maple has a lot of leaves now!
