Moving Cow-Calf Pairs

Today we moved pairs out to pasture. We had a wonderful crew of folks to help us out and Jack, the trucker, as usual was a class act. I thank God for a successful, and happy day. It’s always a day of reflecting back on the closing of a calving season…we still have a few stragglers left to calve out yet but most the herd has calved. I sort of get the same feeling as New Year’s Eve, a time to Thank the Creator for all of His protection, guidance, and beauty in His creatures. God blessed us with cool weather which was much appreciated by man and beast alike!

Planting

Cousins wreaking havoc on the creeping Jenny, Andrew calls it creeping Charlie. We hired our neighbor to plant oats. Grandpa will plant corn in the disked field (the black field).

Work can be more entertaining when working together.

Game Day!

We really enjoyed watching our young man play, he likes to hustle! Soaking up these precious days as a mother…. I’m sure any mother with an empty nest would tell me these days go too quickly!

Up to bat!
Not overly fond of his sunglasses.

Friends

โ€œFriendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, โ€˜What! You too? I thought I was the only one.โ€
โ€“ C.S. Lewis

Thanks for swinging in Marie!
My nephew teaching me a guitar song.

Company!

We had wonderful overnight guests, and by 9 am we had 11 more visitors! I remember growing up we always had company, I think some folks like to visit the country especially during the summer.

Cuties!
Grandma Jen’s rhubarb muffin recipe.
The Best strawberry/rhubarb jam!
Who needs Baker Boy when you’re married to Andrew?
Aunt Anna always provides beautiful flowers for the Good Shepherd statue.
The pro showing us how to make buns!
Climbing the hill that the children call, “the mountain.”
Standing where eagles soar.
A pretty bouquet of crocuses that my nieces picked for me.
Planting tomatoes.
Little garden helper!

My Mother’s Rhubarb

My mother enjoyed making rhubarb pie, and I am a big fan of strawberry rhubarb jam (looking forward to when we have our own strawberries). Andrew really likes rhubarb and ordered a special kind this spring, he says it’s smaller but sweeter. He’s cleaning the rhubarb now so I better get motivated and start looking up some recipes!

Put me in Coach…!

First day of baseball practice!

I am fairly convinced that Schwans has the best chocolate ice cream, especially after an 80 degree day of hoeing potatoes and baseball practice! The boys also enjoyed the orange pushems.
