Adventures in Haymarsh

Month: May 2021 (Page 2 of 3)

Planting

Andrew was able to find us a new no till disk that fits our tractor size!  With quite a bit of coordination it was trucked from Georgia, unloaded in Glen Ullin and Andrew drove to town with the tractor and brought it home.  Grandpa Bob and he worked most the afternoon assembling it, and now he’s planting!!!🌽🌽🌽

I love following the work of people who do the job well! It took quite a bit of time to get everything working perfect. I am not a perfectionist, I’m slowly learning that it’s worth it to do it correctly rather than just rushing through and having things break down later.
There he goes!
Watching Dadda💙
Grandma Jen takes some amazing pictures, I’m happy she’s always willing to share with me! Here’s “Silver” one of the twin calves, she’s growing fast!

Spring Concert & Baby Chicks

We are enjoying having Grandma and Grandpa Jacobson here.  We all enjoyed the Spring Concert.  School end activities are a flurry, but usually fun.  Simon’s teacher worked with Simon since her daughter is also a teacher and wanted to hatch out chicks in her classroom.  The number of chicks that hatched was quite low, but the teacher reported…”The Pre K, Kindergarten & 1st grade came to see them. So precious!”

Butchering Day

We’re running low on beef in our freezer.  We have a “connoisseur” come and begin the process (a very educational process), it is such a humane way to butcher.  He’s a sure shot, the steer is happily eating and within seconds it’s over… in the past when we loaded them and took them to the butcher shop, the animal had some stress and I think it was able to be tasted on the meat.  The rest of the processing happens in Bismarck.  Beef it’s what’s for dinner! 🍽️

Calvies, Calvies, Everywhere!

Today is our official due date start for the cow herd. Andrew went out to find six newborns.  Grandpa and I will be busy tagging!

And this sprightly one born yesterday will be a challenge to catch!
Her first real ponytail! Daddy’s little princess is going to be all grown up before we even realize it. Life’s just speeding by😭. I do find great joy in accompanying our little ones on this journey called life.

Piano Man

GU is very lucky that Andrew is willing to share his many talents.  Today, he was dubbed The Piano Man by the music department.  Wonder if he’ll ever share with them that he’s actually more proficient at the trumpet?

Uncle Aaron was able to attend the concert too!

Happy Mother’s Day🌹

Blessed beyond measure ❤️
❤️ My Treasures from Heaven spoil me and so does their Dad🌹

🌹 Happy Mother’s Day! 🌹

He made this in school…so sweet.
I had to laugh at some of these…”out of the mouth of Babes.”

Pasture Tap

A year ago we discussed adding a well to improve grazing and we had a wake up call this winter when we thought the one well we have by the cattle during calving was having issues.  Both of our home pasture stockdams are dry.  Well the fellows finished up installation yesterday, and we’re just waiting for the final steps to be able to turn it on for the cattle.  A year in the planning, months of coordinating, weeks of work, it will be nice when it’s up and running.

Water is a precious commodity.
Sheila 🙂
The herd was uneasy this morning, it was windy, and quite chilly, we appeased them with some corn and extra hay… We’re supposed to get rain on Saturday and some on Sunday, it’s supposed to be a measurable amount. I wonder if they know what’s coming?
It’s not every day we get a Special Forces Medic, now teacher of Medics join us for supper. Happy Uncle Aaron was able to make it back to Haymarsh to visit Grandma!
