Feast of St. Lucy

“Lucy’s feast is on 13 December, in Advent. Her feast once coincided with the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, before calendar reforms, so her feast day has become a festival of light.[7]

This is particularly seen inΒ Scandinavian countries, with their long dark winters. There, a young girl dressed in a white dress and a red sash (as the symbol of martyrdom) carries palms and wears a crown or wreath of candles on her head. In Denmark, Norway and Sweden, girls dressed as Lucy carry rolls and cookies in procession as songs are sung. It is said that to vividly celebrate St. Lucy’s Day will help one live the long winter days with enough light.”Β  Source:Β  Wikipedia

So we thought tonight would be a good night to turn on the outside lights.

4-H Cookie Decorating Party.
I just had to share this picture from 7 years ago! Grandpa Bob and Grandma Jen had brought us one of their trees and we were decorating.
I have to post these once in a while…I just learned yesterday that my little brother has made 54 dozen of different varieties of Christmas cookies…I am not even close to that.

2nd Week of Advent

We put up the tree and hope to add more “Christmas” to our home each week of Advent.  The tree puts an aroma in our home that is wonderful!  Once we have it all decorated, we plan to keep it up until the Baptism of Our Lord, January 12, 2020.

Simon’s snowmen.
The tree decorating crew.
O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum 🎢
I had them in the window…then Andrew mentioned they may fade.
Andrew made a spot for them out of the sunshine. I could look at the detail on these for hours!
The calves are out enjoying the oats regrowth.
We were asked to make a dozen undecorated sugar cookies for a 4-H Cookie Decorating Party, so while we were at it we decided to decorate the others.
Cute Story time Library projects.
Heading out to graze.
After school chores.
There’s deer in our yard! White, lit up ones!
It’s always cozy to me when it’s the time of year to pull out my snowman mug and sip a warm cup of tea or hot chocolate.

Happy Feast of St. Nicholas!

We’ll see if we get treats in our slippers tonight!

πŸŽ… Jolly Old St. Nicholas!🎢
GU school is currently blessed with incredible leadership & caring Staff. I thought I’d do my part and let them know that they’re doing a nice job with a St. Nicholas Day treat β„οΈπŸŽ„πŸŽ…
Sweets!
We went over and helped Grandma set up her tree.πŸŽ„
A Prairie Fire Pottery syrup pitcher was found in Andrew’s slipper.
48 year Anniversary!

Joyful Advent!

May you all be blessed with a Joyful Advent as you prepare and hopefully joyfully anticipate the birth of the Christ Child!πŸ•―οΈ

Creative Andrew made Advent Candles for our front yard. Driving home, I could see it clearly from the road!
Our Advent calendar. The boys eagerly await opening a new box each day.
A blessed & deeply prayerful Advent to each of you!
