Adventures in Haymarsh

Month: July 2021 (Page 2 of 2)

Haying

Haying has begun!  Andrew located a new to us haybine. I was able to contact the seller and Grandpa went to pick it up a few weeks ago. Seems to be working well!

Andrew helped get Grandpa started over his lunch break.
One field down…
On to the next one!
Tonight’s salad brought exclusively to us by the garden. πŸ₯—
He and I agree with Daddy that weeding the strawberries is a most delicious task. πŸ“

Brothers πŸ’™

My mother’s heart is warmed when these two help each other.

Big brother is trying to teach Rocket to lead and little brother wanted to help.πŸ’™
Was able to weed in the garden with Andrew, he’s my favorite fella to work with.
Peppers.
🌢️
Broccoli πŸ₯¦
I need to thin these πŸ₯•, but I really struggle to do that, so I probably won’t.
Beets…also need to be thinned.
“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.”
Desmond Tutu

Late Calvers

We sorted, worked, and hauled a package of late calvers today.

Rounding up.

Sorting.
Grandpa and Dad turning out the pairs.
Simon saved the day by locating a mother cow that was mistakenly turned out with the wrong herd. He saved us alot of work. He’s starting to be able to “read” cattle.

Garden

We received .90 last night.  This moisture is sure making the garden perk up.  The heat stress is leaving the plants.

The cabbage and buttercup squash enjoy this moisture and heat.
Tiny eggplants πŸ† are coming.
Volunteer pansies… If any flower or garden plant is coming voluntarily, I am letting it grow this year!
Picked some snap peas yesterday.
A few cherry tomatoes.
The gophers ate seven of my eight watermelon and cantaloupe plants. They also are relentless on the little impatient rose.

Relief 🌧️

After a week of 90 degree weather and dry, hot wind, we received a much needed .75 of rain last night.Β  Everything is breathing a sigh of relief…all the plants in the garden even though it’s being watered were withering.

A lilly bloomed! It’s having a tough time with the hot, dry weather we’ve had, but the color is pretty.
Colorful snapdragons…. they need to be weeded in a terrible way, but I enjoy the pop of color.
Andrew reseeded 20 acres yesterday.
When it’s too muddy for children to work outside, have baseball practice and too cold for swimming lessons, dance!
Another misty day! The children are having to use their imaginations to be creative since they can’t go outside. He said he’s opening an ice cream shop and these are his flavors.

Happy 4th of July!πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

An interesting picture sent from my older brother.Β  Happy birthday U.S.A.!πŸŽ‡

Checking on the herds in their new pastures, this group is so happy and content.
This herd is also happy and content. Praise Him!
Time to cool off.
No fireworks this year, water balloon fight will have to do.

Hot πŸ”₯

We moved out pairs today,Β  did we pick a cooker!Β  God sent Maria and Uncle Peter to make this day survivable for us!Β  When we were finished at 5:30 p.m. I looked at my phone and it said 102Β°

A new corner and gate.
We began the day at 6:30 am to beat the heat!
Cousins πŸ’
A good day for the pool. Thank you Maria for the excellent care of the children today.
